Privacy Policy

JobAssay is a browser extension that helps you track job applications. This policy describes exactly what data it handles. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

• Your resume is not stored on our servers by default. It is held on your own device and sent with each Fit Score request, processed in memory, and discarded.
• We do not collect your browsing history. We only ever read a page you explicitly ask us to save.
• We do not sell data, and we do not run advertising or third-party analytics.
• The free tier needs no account and stores everything locally in your browser.

What the extension stores on your device

On the free tier, everything stays in your browser’s local extension storage and never reaches us: the job postings you save (title, company, location, salary if posted, employment type, posting date, source URL and description text), your notes, contacts, tags and reminders, your settings, and any resume text you add.

You can export all of it to CSV at any time from the board, and uninstalling the extension deletes it.

Job page data

The extension reads a page’s content onlywhen you ask it to save that page — by clicking the toolbar icon or the “Save job” button on a supported job board. It does not monitor pages in the background, does not record the pages you visit, and does not transmit page content anywhere except as described under Fit Score below.

Your resume

This is the most sensitive thing JobAssay touches, so it gets the most specific treatment:

• Resume files you add are parsed to plain text in your browser. The file itself is never uploaded.
• By default we do not store your resume. When you request a Fit Score, the resume text is sent to our server with that single request, held in memory for the duration of the request, and discarded when it completes. We log only token counts, never content.
• If you explicitly opt in to “save my resume for one-click checks”, the text is stored encrypted at rest so that you do not have to re-upload it. You can delete it in one click from the extension’s settings, which removes it from our database.
• Resume text is sent to our AI provider solely to produce your Fit Score. It is not used to train any model.

Fit Score and Company Snapshot (Pro)

When you request a Fit Score, we send the job description and your resume text to our server, which forwards them to an AI provider to generate the assessment. The resulting score is returned to your device and stored with that job on your board.

Company Snapshot combines information the job posting itself publishes with a summary of publicly reported news about the employer. Summaries are cached per company and are not linked to you. We do not scrape or reproduce content from employee-review, salary-aggregation or professional-network sites.

Accounts, licences and payment

A Pro subscription creates a record containing your email address, licence key, and subscription status. Payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record — we never see or store your card details. See Lemon Squeezy’s privacy policy.

If you enable cloud sync, the job data on your board is stored in our database so it can be shared between your devices, protected by row-level security so that no other account can read it.

Permissions the extension requests

• storage — to keep your board on your device.
• activeTab and scripting — to read the job posting on the tab you are looking at, only after you click Save.
• alarms and notifications — to deliver the follow-up reminders you set.
• Access to specific job-board sites— to show the “Save job” button on those sites. You can turn it off per site.

We do not request access to your browsing history, bookmarks, or all websites.

Retention and deletion

Local data lives until you delete it or uninstall. Server-side records (licence, synced jobs, optional stored resume) are deleted within 30 days of you cancelling and requesting deletion. Email support@jobassay.com and we will action it.

Children

JobAssay is not directed at children under 16.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and notify Pro subscribers by email before the change takes effect.
